Michael Espinal-Brito is Right C3’s $2,500 Grand Prize Scholarship winner for 2019 as part of our senior scholarship survey. Michael will be attending Emory University this fall. He plans to major in chemistry, with the ultimate goal of entering the medical field as a pediatrician, surgeon, or general doctor. He will be the first in his family to attend college.
During his 8th grade year, Michael suffered a serious injury while ice skating. He spent much of that school year dealing with surgery and physical therapy. The entire process gave him insight into the medical field and created an interest in becoming a medical professional. He learned that the amazing doctors who helped him recover his injury attended Emory University. This, along with the diversity, student bonding, facilities, and overall environment were major factors in Michael’s choice to attend Emory.
Throughout high school, Michael stayed focused and was able to maintain high academic marks. He was also involved in an extracurricular enrichment program, as well as the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for 3 years. He likes to spend his spare time riding his bike, playing volleyball, and exploring his hometown of Bronx, New York.
Michael used much of the wide range of services offered by Right C3. The essay editing, applications reviews, test preparation material, email reminders, and the extensive college search tool were all things Michael mentioned as being extremely helpful during his transition from high school into college.
Michael is planning to live on campus during his time at Emory. He is looking forward to creating and maintaining his own schedule, and exploring his interests through different academic classes. He plans to do work-study, and join the student government.
His eagerness to learn and grow as an individual is matched only by his dedication to succeed. We know that these qualities will help him achieve his goals during his time at Emory and in his career thereafter. We wish him the best of luck as he begins his new journey.
