Right C3 Announces its 2018 Tanya Madison Morrison Memorial Scholarship Winner

Right C3 would like to announce that Ruth Kone is our 2018 Tanya Madison Morrison Memorial Scholarship winner. The contest invited our graduating seniors to submit an essay sharing a time when they mentored, inspired, or encouraged someone to reach a goal, pursue a dream, or push through a difficult time. Ruth will receive $1,500 for her wonderful essay entry about working at the Boys and Girls Club.

Right C3 holds this essay contest in honor of one of our beloved enrollment counselors, Tanya Madison Morrison, who lost her battle with cancer. She served our families with her kind heart, and her presence was a joy to those who worked with her. Tanya was a person of faith and joy, and it is our pleasure to give this scholarship in her memory.

Ruth made her own impact in the life of a student who was part of the Boys and Girls Club in her area. She is from Sierra Leone and recently immigrated to the United States. Ruth was able to work with this student, who has a speech disorder, based on her own experience of living in a new country where her accent stood out. Ruth said she wanted to teach this child that there was nothing wrong with sounding different from others and that actually his different way of speaking showed his uniqueness.

Ruth’s heart for children goes beyond her work with the Boys and Girls Club. She was inspired to pursue a career in medicine after seeing children suffer from Ebola in Sierra Leone. Ruth wants to become a pediatrician so that she can help children with their health issues.

Ruth is well on her way to achieving this goal since she will be attending George Washington University in the fall. She leaves her high school as her class’ valedictorian. What an accomplishment! She is also earning her International Baccalaureate Diploma as part of her high school work, and outside of class, she participated in sports and her church choir.

At George Washington, Ruth plans to major in biomedical engineering as she prepares for medical school after college. It was through a summer program that she found out she had an interest in engineering as well as medicine.

George Washington was the right school for Ruth because of the academic programs and the close proximity to her home. She loved the campus visit, loves the city, and received a good financial aid offer which will help her pay for her first year of college. Right C3 is happy to contribute this scholarship toward her education as well. Right C3 wishes Ruth all the best in her future work! Ruth, you are an inspiration to many!
